You are not a person who happens to have a soul. You are a soul who put a human life on.
The teaching
You are not a person who happens to have a soul. You are a soul who put a human life on, then forgot you were wearing it. The tightness you have been calling not-enough has a cause older than your first failure.
Ram Dass called the personality a spacesuit: you need it to walk this planet, and you do not need to believe you are the suit. The voice, the humor, the way you love a kitchen in the morning are the flavor of this visit, not a mistake to throw away. Zhuangzi arrives at the same reversal without the word soul. Waking from the butterfly dream, he could not say which form was the dreamer. If you cannot be certain which form is the real you, clinging to this one as final identity is the error. The life is one transformation you are passing through. It is not the passer.
Adjusting the coat does not find the wearer. A better job, a better body, even a more spiritual personality is still a garment. The homesickness is not a wound in the personality. It is the soul noticing the coat. Wear the life. Remember who dressed. Do not make a religion out of the remembering.
